Two Questions for Bloggers.

January 31, 2007

Lately, I have been contemplating a move to WordPress. The only problem is I can’t transfer the old posts. Which blog sites do you like and why?

Second question. I seem to be noticing an increase in adoptees, BP and AP discovering they are being written about. I think we all assume it won’t happen and then…disaster! I would like to hear how people handled being discovered and how they dealt with it.

Great Time.

January 29, 2007

I had a great time yesterday but today I feel like I have been run over by a big truck. I am contemplating scooting out of work early for a little rest and relaxation.

The first car arrived here at 11:00 containing birth mom, her husband, birth aunt and her husband. A little while after that, a second car containing the three birth siblings, a spouse, a birth niece and a family friend arrived.

It was a little uncomfortable at first for everyone but me and birth mom. She came in the door and started pitching right in which is great. I am no stranger to entertaining but I felt very scattered. She showed me the new necklace with the four birthstones which was pretty. I only saw it for a brief moment but I certainly saw that red garnet in first position!

Once the food and drink was out, people loosened up quite a bit. At one point, I was sitting at the table laughing with the siblings and I noticed birth mom watching us with a big smile on her face.
I went for a nice walk with birth mom’s husband, her daughter and my dog. When we got back, her husband was snoozing by the fire so I think he was pretty comfortable. They brought me more firewood so we stacked it in the garage.

These two half brothers can drink! They weren’t driving so they had a real good time. They are both into auto racing so some of those conversations were over my head. Interestingly, all four of us half siblings have the exact same sense of humor. Birth mom thinks it comes from her father. It is very dry, fast-paced and witty.

I don’t know if there was a signal I missed but at exactly 3:30 my birth mom started getting the coats. We divided up the food and I sent them home with ham, coffee cake and other stuff. Actually, four and a half hours was the perfect amount of time. A really good visit but not endless.

After they left, I cranked some old Stones and Fleetwood Mac on the stereo, poured myself a hearty drink and cleaned up. I also noticed the baked beans spent the whole party in the garage fridge so I’ll be eating those for a while! Ah well…

I took a little snooze myself later and woke up at 11:00 p.m. and then was up half the night working and thinking! I got a nice email from the daughter around 8:30 p.m. and I noticed birth mom called at 6:30 p.m. but didn’t leave a message. I’ll call her tonight.

Menu for Sunday.

January 26, 2007

I decided to go the brunch route on Sunday. I can do most of it in advance. I’ll set up the fireplace beforehand so I can just light it when they get here. It’s very cold and there may be flurries on Sunday. Flurries are fine, blizzards are not. Here is what I have so far:

Pineapple and Bourbon Baked Ham (I made it before and it is fantastic!)
Breakfast Strata (if I double the recipe, it should feed 16!)
Coffee Cake (buy or bake?)
Baked Beans (?)
Breads, rolls and muffins
Fruit Salad (must buy fruit today and force ripen)

Coffee, tea, juice

Beer (need I say more?)
Mimosas (for the ladies)
Bloody Mary’s (for me!)

Juice boxes and kid-type stuff.
