Over the last year, I have become hooked on the PBS show History Detectives. I stumbled on an investigation they did about an unwed mothers home in Kansas. At the end of the show after they locate the home where this adopted woman was born, they mention going to the website to watch a followup regarding reuniting this woman and her birth parents.
After scouring the website, it is safe to assume the reunion either didn’t happen or hopefully they decided to take it private.
I also found the Do It Yourself section has an abundance of information and tools that would be helpful to any searcher. Some of the suggestions are wonderful such as how to chronicle your search, how to catagorize your results and how to get the best results with vital statistics.
Good stuff.

I am finally going to meet my paternal half sister in a couple of weeks! She is 8 months younger than me and has a lot of ill feelings towards our biological father. She has a rollercoaster ride of issues and has recently decided that these were all the result of him.
My paternal half brother (her brother) recently surprised me. He and his family are coming to visit the Boston area during the December vacation week and he wants to have a big get together with all of us. A family (?) reunion of sorts. He has rented a lodge in New Hampshire and we are all staying up there. I am thrilled they are coming since I had such a great time meeting them in Texas.
This past weekend I met my b-mom and her husband for lunch. My b-aunt and her husband came along and we had a great time. They brought me a 17 pound fresh turkey for Thanksgiving. Fortunately, it wasn’t still alive! You never know with these folks. I can’t help feeling sad for B. and her husband since this will be the first holiday since their son D. passed away. During the lunch, I kept sneaking sideways glances at her husband and there is just such sadness . It just envelopes him. He lost his baby boy. His pride and joy.
Life is so short. I hope this year is “the year” for all the waiting moms, dads, adoptees and siblings out there. If we all concentrate real hard and ask kimkim’s universe…..maybe it will happen for all!
I have two weeks till I can legally obtain my un-amended birth certificate although it seems somewhat anti-climatic at this point. I will get it though just because I can!
