The Locator, NFL and Me…

September 21, 2009 · 2 Comments

I finally had time to sit and watch Saturday night’s episode of Troy Dunn’s the Locator. I find it interesting that there is always something that speaks to me. I have noticed that the episodes of the new season has shifted away from adoption themed stories but it is all still quite relevant.

This particular episode involved an NFL player whose father had disappeared when he was a baby. He went on to explain that he never had a father figure growing up and how painful that had been for him. There is always that “missing piece”. Sadly, he discovered his father had passed away and I felt his pain more than you will ever know.

Regular readers will know that the first biological relatives I ever met where my paternal uncle and his wife. I would say that is one of the strongest relationships I have ever had. I really feel the unspoken bond between us was formed in large part due to R.’s death. I hope somewhere R. knows that his older brother is taking good care of his son.

I look at this picture of  R. and his older brother and I get choked up. My uncle with a protective arm around R. It is nice to know that that protective arm is now around me.
